While the cabinet did clamp down on first-class air privileges, it shot down a proposal to have six working days instead of five in government departments. While the span of working hours will remain same - eight hours - the new office timing will be 9 AM to 5 PM.
To a query, he said chief minister Punjab will bring a real change in the Punjab province by implementing the vision of Prime minister Imran Khan.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told the media: "Arif Alvi will become the president of Pakistan as the PTI has the support of the required number of voters".
There was no hurdle in the way of his party's win in the coming presidential election as we truly believe on merit and its allied parties support, he hoped.
Giving details of abolishing first-class travel of the top officials, the information minister said that only the president, prime minister, chief justice, Senate chairman, National Assembly speaker and chief ministers had the facility to travel in the first class of worldwide flights. However, it has been decided that now they will be travelling in business/club class. He refused to use elaborate official protocol.
One of the reasons cited for the decision is that flights being operated from Pakistan do not offer the first-class category and foreign airlines charge fares for this category which are almost three-hundred times higher than fares for business or club class.
On being asked whether the Army chief would also be barred from using first-class air travel, Chaudhry said he was never granted the privilege. Similarly, President Mamnoon Hussain also distributed public money of Rs90 million on his own discretion.
The measures, he claimed, would save the exchequer to the tune of $51 billion - which was being spent by the erstwhile Nawaz Sharif-led government as discretionary funds.
The Cabinet took up a host of issues, including reverting to six-day working week, but chose to continue five-day working after some ministers opposed the idea because it may alienate government servants. About the failure of the Results Transmission System (RTS) during on July 25 night, he said that like opposition parties, the PTI had also expressed concern over it and one of the party's senior leader Azam Khan Swati had taken up the issue with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
