Apple unveils premium iPhone XS, health features for watch
Sep 15 2018
The iPhone XR was just released by Apple amid much fanfare in California; retailing at $749 (£749) upwards, it is powered by an A12 Bionic chip, and comes in threestorage options: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
Hindustan Times, owned by HT Media Ltd, is one of India's largest publications that provides unbiased news, analysis and features on politics, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and more. In fact, while its display is bigger than that found in any other iPhone model other than the XS Max, the phone itself is actually smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus and previous plus-sized models.
The firm also announced a third iPhone, the iPhone XR, which Apple's Phil Schiller said was meant to allow the company to reach "as many people as possible" with its devices.
If the speculation pans out, the even-bigger iPhone would represent Apple's attempt to feed consumers' appetite for increasingly bigger screens as they rely on smartphones to watch and record video, as well as take photos wherever they are. Both phones have a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU, both of which are faster and more powerful than iPhone X from a year ago.
If that claim is accurate, it'll be interesting to see it in action; Face ID in the iPhone X is fast, but there's still room for improvement. Apple's iPhone XR has a 12-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture.
Plus, an update to Mac, featuring a dark mode and a redesigned Mac App Store, would be coming to compatible devices.
The company is also expected to unveil a new version of its wireless AirPods earbuds with wireless charging and a wireless mat that will be able to charge several devices at once.
Next up, the iPhone Xr, which as suspected, features a 6.1-inch LCD display. At the front on each, there's a 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera. Finally, rather than offering 3D touch, the iPhone XR will use a haptic touch system similar to the recent MacBook Pro trackpads.
Apple said the XS models would be sold from September 21 and the XR from October 26.
The new 6-core A12 Bionic chip has 2 performance cores up to 15 percent faster and 40 percent lower power, and 4 efficiency cores with up to 50 percent lower power.
In addition, Apple says the Series 4 Apple Watch will also be able to detect when someone falls - and can tell the difference between a trip and a fall.
The AppleWatch Series 4 will cost $499 for built-in connectivity and $399 for a standard model.
The fall detection upgrade is expected to appeal to worker safety concerns in factories or other industrial settings, as well as to elderly or disabled users.
The iPhone XS will cost $1,649 and up, while the iPhone XS Max begins at $1,799, available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB, and with the choice of space grey, silver, and a new gold finish.
