Children among five found dead at home in Perth, Australia

A man turned himself into police on Sunday and is currently assisting with enquiries

Just two months ago, an Ellenbrook mother and her two children were also found dead inside their suburban home.

Assistant commissioner Paul Steele said the incident was "tragic" but that there were no ongoing safety concerns.

It's understood police are examining CCTV footage from nearby homes which sit opposite the Coode Street house.

Late this morning, a man in his 20s attended a regional WA police station and provided some information which caused police to attend the home on Coode Street, Bedford.

A spokesman for WA Police said: "Attending police discovered the deceased bodies of several people including children believed to be up to five persons".

"We are three hours into this investigation, I have no further detail in relation to those who are present at the location". It has taken everyone by surprise, we are all in complete shock.

The homicide squad was undertaking a thorough investigation, police media said.

"It's just really sad that something like this can happen in such a quiet neighborhood, it's horrid on every level. poor children", Maria Manfredini, a resident in the area, told 9News.

"While the scene is yet to be forensically examined it is believed that up to five deceased are located at that scene", Mr Steel said, adding that there was at least one woman among the dead.

"It is a tragic thing when incidents like this occur", he said.

Forensic police officers inspect a property in Bedford, Perth after five bodies were discovered at the home.

Mr Steel stressed that this was very early in the investigation so he could not provide many details.

"This is a tragic event that will have no doubt have an impact, not only on the family and friends of the deceased, but for the whole of the community, those first responders who were faced with attending a scene with multiple deceased people". It's unclear how long the bodies had been in the house before police arrived.

It also follows the deaths of seven people, also in Western Australia, when a grandfather shot dead his wife, daughter and her four children in a mass murder-suicide in May.
