England's Luke Shaw conscious and talking after nasty head collision

Joe Gomez- Joe Gomez poised to start against Spain in England's three-man defence

Luke Shaw has allayed concerns over his well-being after sustaining a sickening-looking injury that overshadowed England's UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, who equalised for Spain in the first half after Rashford had given England the lead, also won plaudits.

There was an expectation in the 81,000 crowd as the game kicked off following the presentation of the World Cup Golden Boot trophy to Harry Kane by England coach Gareth Southgate.

When England last faced Spain at Wembley in November 2016, during Southgate's four-game run as interim manager after Sam Allardyce's dismissal, it was an altogether different team that lined up for the hosts. We created some good chances against Spain.

England and Spain will meet on Saturday when they kick off their first ever UEFA Nations League campaigns.

England reached their first World Cup semi-final in three decades in Russian Federation, before losing 2-1 to Croatia. Not just losing but being out-played, at times, despite the slender scoreline and the dispute over whether Danny Welbeck's injury-time strike should have stood.

Manchester United have been dealt another blow after Marcus Rashford suffered a suspected hamstring injury during England's defeat to Spain on Saturday night. Shaw appeared to be wearing an oxygen mask as he was stabilised on a stretcher and then wheeled off the field.

"We need to asses over the weekend, but I think it's likely we'll need to call some players in", Southgate said.

England were enjoying a spell of possession and Rose got down the left flank well, to win a corner, that Maguire headed just wide.

"But I've got to give the players enormous credit because it was a game where we could've folded and disappeared but we didn't".

"But I'm proud of the way we finished the game".

"It takes time. We've come a long way in a short space of time and today was as tough a test as you could have against a team that presses like that and are so good in possession".
