125cc MotoGP Race Report & Results - Sachsenring 2011

Zarco & Faubel Photo Finish - Sachsenring 2011

This was amazingly frantic stuff from the 125 guys with positions chopping and changing every few metres.

Maverick Vinales got swallowed up at the start and it took him around eight laps to recover and get near the front.

That was because for the first half of the race it was a ten-way battle for the lead involving riders like Vazquez, Zarco, Gadea, Cortese, Faubel, Salom and more.

Gadea, Vazquez and Zarco all lead the race at one point or another but equally held positions as low as fourth and fifth, sometimes on the same lap!

With 12 laps to go some reasonable sense of normality resumed as Gadea lead with team-mate Vinales in second, Terol, Faubel and Zarco were right on their tales.

Vazquez then ran straight on at corner one on the next lap and whilst he kept it upright and moving he was shuffled back to tenth.

Vinales then hit the front and tried to make a break for it but wasn’t able to create a gap as Zarco came through to take second.

A bit later Vazquez crashed out on turn eight, whilst at the front we had Vinales, Gadea, Faubel and Zarco with a bit of a lead.

With three laps to go Vinales, Zarco and Faubel were clear leaders at the front, Gadea had been shuffled right back as he seemed to have an issue with the left side of his handlebars.

At the death Zarco passed Vinales and then Faubel dived underneath to shuffle him back to third.

Just as we thought the order had been decided, Faubel got the run out of the last corner and both riders crossed the line at the same time.

The result went to the video and they agonised over a decision but eventually decided they couldn’t split the two riders and so Hector Faubel was given the win as he’d put the faster lap out of him and Johann Zarco.

This was the first time their had ever been a dead heat were the riders couldn’t be split.
