Sleeping Dogs 2 hopes dashed as developer shuts down

Sleeping Dogs dev United Front Games shutting down

While Smash+Grab's Steam page is still available to view, it appears to have been removed from sale entirely, with no explanation to be seen anywhere.

The chances of a Sleeping Dogs sequel are looking worse than ever, as developer United Front Games reportedly close.

A reason for the studio's closure hasn't been provided, and an official announcement hasn't been released either.

Although United Front Games just put out their most recent Early Access game Smash+Grab this month, the studio is apparently shutting down as per NeoGAF reports. A press statement or news of refunds for the game have yet to be addressed. It mixed in an intricate hand-to-hand combat system and even included A-list actress Emma Stone as part of its cast, but the game didn't reach publisher Square Enix's sales expectations. It is possible that the quiet cancellation of their Sleeping Dogs spin-off (the online multiplayer Triad Wars) earlier this year should have been interpreted as the first warning sign. United Front Games also helped develop Halo: The Master Chief Collection and the Xbox One version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. All we can do is hope for the best and wish the people who worked in the studio best of luck in their future endeavors.
