Time for change: Don't forget! Clocks go back 1 hour on Sunday

Old-Fashioned Alarm Clock

The UK will switch to Greenwich Mean Time and go back one hour at 2am which means the start of lighter mornings but darker evenings.

This weekend the clocks will go back at 2:00am on Sunday, 30 October.

In the United Kingdom the clocks go forward one hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back one hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October.

This marks the end of the British Summer Time (BST) and the United Kingdom will be back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Daylight saving was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 but pushed forward by a London builder, William Willett.

The onset is winter is nearly officially upon us, as the clocks are set to go back tonight.

Daylight saving works because it saves energy due to less artificial light needed during the evening.

You will most probably be fast asleep when this change happens, but does mean you get an extra hour in bed tomorrow morning!

Why do the clocks go back?

He published a pamphlet called "The Waste of Daylight" in a bid to get people out of bed earlier by changing the nation's clocks.

Yes, if you have an iPhone, iPad and Mac they automatically change.
