Badovini Looks To Strengthen Top Ten WSBK Position

Ayrton Badovini - Magny-Cours 2011

The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team is at Portimao (Portugal) for the final race of the 2011 World Championship. Ayrton Badovini is looking to strengthen his position in the top ten, while Xavier Fores will try to improve further and gain more championship points. In Superstock both riders aim to finish the season with a good performance.

The 2011 World Superbike Championship will put on its final performance of the season next Sunday in Portugal. The Portimao circuit contains ups and downs, curves and straights and camber that put a strain on riders and bikes. The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike team will line-up Ayrton Badovini and the Spaniard Xavier Fores. The Italian aims to maintain his position within the top ten, to do justice to the S 1000 RR Superbike in its first season, the bike with which he won the FIM Superstock Cup last year.

Xavier Fores, called in to replace James Toseland, has repaid the confidence vested in him by consistently improving at each event and he is poised to pick up more championship points in Portugal, as he did at Magny Cours.
In Superstock, Lorenzo Zanettiwill aim to claim the runner-up slot in the Cup, with only seven points separating him from current second place rider Danilo Petrucci. Following his podium finish in France, Sylvain Barrier , will defend his fourth place which is under attack from Niccolo Canepa, who is just three points behind.

Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team, before leaving for Portugal, said: “We are going to work with our usual determination at this final round of this season. The Championship has flown by in our first Superbike year, with our commitment to our new team and new bike, and the renewed challenge in the Superstock. In Portugal we will try, once again, to get the best possible result. Ayrton wants to make the most of the 2011 championship, and we aim to make more improvements with Xavier. In Superstock, with Sylvian and Lorenzo, we aim to do well at the last round of the season”.
