Bel-Ray SuperB Honda’s Juan Carlos Salvatierra made huge progress during stage four of the 15-day Dakar race, passing 38 riders to win the non-elite class in today’s special.
The Bolivian rider has had a steady start to his Dakar challenge after crashing on the second day, but following today’s 424km liaison, Salvatierra finished 20th overall during the day’s 326km special section, and best in class aboard his CRF 450X. This now elevates the Honda pilot to 90th place overall.
After the unfortunate departure of Bel-Ray SuperB Honda’s top prospects, riders Sam Sunderland, who retired with an electrical fault, and Quinn Cody, who crashed out, have now safely arrived home, with Cody heading for more treatment on his clavicle and head injury.
Honda Racing Argentina’s Javier Pizzolito finished top Honda rider today in 17th position in the special, and lies 11th overall, while Tamarugal Honda Racing XC Rally Team’s Daniel Gouet was 24th in today’s timed section but is still 17th overall.
Henk Hellegers: Bel-Ray SuperB Honda Team Owner
“Today has been more positive day for the team with Juan passing a massive 38 riders in really dusty conditions to finish 20th on the special and win his class as a non-elite rider. We also have other supported riders in the race, all whom have made it through the stage okay, which is good news. Quinn and Sam have both gone home now, but in good spirits, and with the team we have on board we are already looking forward to next year. The intention is to continue with the same team, and even in the short time on track Sam made some good decisions, so I feel he could make a really good rally rider in the future, which is our main aim. So overall it’s been a much better day and we look forward to tomorrow.”
