The fear of theft is sadly always in the back of the mind of any motorcyclist, and when Stuart Mann was awoken at 3am after receiving a text message to his phone, his worst nightmare became reality. The 28-year-old Londoner had been sent a movement alert from motorcycle tracking specialist, Bike Trac, informing him that his motorcycle had been moved and subsequently stolen.
As the proud owner of a Ducati 696 motorcycle, the realisation that his pride and joy was being stolen was a heart-sinking moment, but luckily Stuart had prepared for the unthinkable and had already fitted his Italian machine with a Bike Trac unit. All the East Finchley rider had to do was switch on his computer and log onto the Bike Trac tracking portal to establish the location of his bike.
Within minutes, Stuart was able to pinpoint the exact whereabouts of his motorcycle, and was able to contact the police to relay the information so that they could catch the thief red-handed. All that was left to do then was sit back, wait and hope that the officers could intercept the criminal.
At 8am the same morning, Stuart received a call from the police to inform him that his beloved motorcycle had been tracked down, seized and recovered. The officer informed the rider that his motorcycle had been impounded at the station and he was free to come down and collect it whenever he was ready. It was a truly remarkable recovery that took just five hours.
A relieved Stuart commented: “I am so pleased that I decided to fit a Bike Trac unit. The online tracking portal gave me an exact picture of what was happening to my bike – as it happened. I was able to relay all the information to police officers who successfully recovered my motorcycle in perfect condition.
“The Bike Trac unit really is a fantastic piece of technology, which I am truly grateful for! It is very rare that when something is stolen you ever see it returned, so to be back out on my motorcycle less than 24 hours after it was stolen is a testament to Bike Trac’s amazing product. I would recommend it to anyone!”
Bike Trac, available in selected UK motorcycle dealerships now, costs just £299 plus a small monthly subscription. The Bike Trac device is registered to the user and not the machine so can be transferred from bike to bike.
