British Superbike Race 2 Report & Results – Brands Hatch 2011

Race two was a more ‘sedate’ affair if that’s the right word. A snapped chain for Jon Kirkham in the warm up lap meant he was unable to start and was in the pits from the start.

Shane Byrne shot to the front and took the lead off the bat with Tommy Hill, Michael Laverty and Ryuichi Kiyonari chasing him down.

The unfortunate Guy Martin was out by lap 2 with an unkown issue, not sure how much they will have learned from this wildcard.

By lap eight it was a six way battle for the lead with Byrne, Hill, Laverty, Kiyo, Easton and Hopper all bunched up and pushing hard.

However by lap 12 Easton and Hopper had dropped off and were having their own battle for fifth, leaving the front four in a procession around the Brands track.

Just two laps later Tommy Hill snuck up the inside of Byrne to take the lead, there was touching but it was all clean, and from there Hill managed to hold off any further advances to take the win.

John Hopkins got past Stuart Easton on lap 16 but didn’t have enough to catch the leading quartet.

Hill and Byrne out in front pulled out a slight lead over Laverty and Kiyo who were battling for second and Hopkins and Easton battling for third though Easton was dropping off with each lap.

Kiyo managed to slip past Laverty on lap 23 to move into third place and straight away began catching the front two of Hill and Byrne as they, in turn, started to catch back markers in the shape of Tom Tunstall.

With just four laps to go Kiyo was right with Hill and Byrne and with two laps remaining Byrne tried to take the lead but ran wide allowing Kiyo to go second.

Byrne was then guilty of pushing to hard and ran wide again which meant he was unable to grab second from his team mate who, in turn, never had enough to catch the excellent Tommy Hill
