Carlos Checa Dominates Race 2 At Donington Park

Carlos Checa - Donington Park 2011

A dominate performance in race from Carlos Checa saw him take the win comfortably at Donington Park in race 2.

Whilst British rider Leon Haslam, once again, took off like a rocket to take the lead from the green light. But once again it quickly became apparent that he wasn’t going to be able to stay there.

It didn’t take long for Checa to pass and when he did he cleared off into the distance keeping a nice two to three second lead for the majority of the race.

Camier was, once again, in third but this time he managed to hold on, almost taking second from Marco Melandri who had once again come up through the ranks to challenge for the podium places.

Whilst Camier was able to get past Melandri he wasn’t able to make it stick and eventually finished the race in third place, behind Melandri in second.

Leon Haslam had an off field excursion but managed to get back on track albeit down in eighth. He recovered well though to come through the field in the final laps and finish in 4th place ahead of the excellent Lascorz who had been sat there for most of the race.

Max Biaggi has had the weekend to forget here at Donington Park and his weekend went from bad to worse.

After ‘slapgate’ and his poor showing in race one, he jump started on this race then failed to come in for his ride-through and was subsequently black flagged.

Sat in the media centre surrounded by Italians I can tell you they weren’t pleased!

A total of 51,500 fans came to Donington Park over the three-day WSBK weekend and it’s good to have it back on the calendar.
