Following the announcement that Petronas brought its three-year association with Yamaha’s MotoGP effort to an end, has stepped in to fill the gap.
According to website MotoMatters.com, the news was revealed by the CEO of the Greek importer of ENEOS to MotoGrandPrix.com, which explained that as ENEOS and Petronas are direct competitors, it was not possible to make the announcement in the same release as the news of Petronas’ withdrawal. An official announcement is expected in mid-January.
ENEOS sells a range of premium lubrication products made by Japanese oil giant, JX Nippon, which has previously sponsored Honda’s Formula One team. This, however, is the company’s first venture into motorcycle racing.
The details of the deal have not been revealed, but MotoMatters points out that ENEOS uses is a similar shade of orange to a certain arch-rival’s main oil company title sponsor, so it will be interesting to see how Yamaha’s factory 2012 livery turns out.
