Lorenzo Keeps His Head Down To Take The Win

Jorge Lorenzo - Jerez 2011

We usually say that Moto2 is nicknamed skittles, however it was the MotoGP riders that were falling left right and centre.

It was a good start from Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo as Stoner lead for a while before Simoncelli surpised everyone and came through to take the lead.

Simoncelli lead for quite some time and it wasn’t till there was just nine laps to go that he fell off after trying to lean too much into the corner at the end of the straight.

Valentino Rossi started in 12th position but came through the field like they weren’t even trying. He got all the way up to 3rd, taking his team mate and Lorenzo, amongst others along the way, before disaster struck.

Whilst trying to get up past Stoner for second place, Rossi’s Ducati folded and he skittled Stoner out with him, getting trapped under both bikes in the process. Rossi managed to get back on and finish the race but Stoner had no such luck.

Dani Pedrosa had a nightmare as he dropped back rapidly and was circulating in 10th for much of the race before he got his second wind and powered through to 2nd, but he didn’t have enough to catch and pass Lorenzo.

For all the fallers I guess we have to mention that Lorenzo just kep his head down and did his own thing, he was never the quickest but was consistent and that’s what he has said will win him the championship this year.

Spies, having a fairly unremarkable race, managed to grab an excellent second place just being nice and smooth and also keeping his head down. however it was short lived, just half a lap after taking second from Pedrosa he fell off and ended his race.

This gave Colin Edwards third place and a long overdue podium…until his bike decided to stop, randomly. This gave Nicky Hayden the podium, and he managed to keep it upright and actually take 3rd place.

Rossi made his way to the pits to apologise to Casey Stoner who replied “your ambition obviously out ways your talent”. Yes, that’s right, Stoner actually said that to a nine times world champion…
