The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team head to Motorland Aragon spurred on by the sight of the podium at Misano and the Lorenzo Lanzi’s strong debut on the BMW S1000R after an extended period off a bike. In Superstock Zanetti and Barrier are on a new high after their performance at Monza.
The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team rider Ayrton Badovini currently lies eleventh in the World Championship, although equal on points with tenth place. This is the first season for the team in the highest category and the strength was shown by Ayrton last Sunday at the circuit of Misano Adriatico when he missed out on a podium finish by less than one tenth of a second. At the halfway point of the season he has 72 points to his credit.
The second bike at Aragon will be ridden by Lorenzo Lanzi, who will again replace James Toseland for the event. Lorenzo has never ridden the track but following his strong debut event at Misano, where he scored championship points from his 11th and 15th place finishes, he is certain to be pushing for more points for the team.
Lorenzo Zanetti and Sylvain Barrier netted a third and fourth respectively in Superstock, bringing more confidence to the BMW Motorrad Italia team STK. The long straights should allow the riders to make the most of the four-cylinder German engine.
Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Superbike Italy team, said: “After Ayrton’s great performance at Misano we approach the Aragon weekend with optimism as we have tested at the track and we have data, although the track temperatures will be different. Ayrton knows the track and we can expect a good weekend. Lorenzo Lanzi has never seen the circuit and he will have to adapt. After Misano he has experience on the bike and while continuing to learn, will focus on learning the track. We have tested with the Superstock bikes and that also gives us optimism for the weekend ahead.”
