Moto2 Race Report & Results - Sachsenring 2011

A great start from Stefan Bradl as he hit the front ahead of Marc Marquez and then disaster for Julian Simon who fell before he even got to turn one and took four riders with him as they ran straight on into the kitty litter.

One of those riders was Bradley Smith though replays showed he seem to go straight on before Simon fell. Disaster for Mika Kallio as well who had a technical problem on the grid and couldn’t even start the race.

Marquez hit straight back to take the lead back off Bradl and quickly managed to eek out a slight lead ahead of Bradl and Alex De Angelis.

A horror crash with just a few laps down as Aleix Espargaro started to high side and Max Neukirchner came round the corner and, with no-where to go, smashed right into Espargaro mid highside.

They tumbled together with their bikes and Espargaro was left on the ground whilst Neukirchner looked like he had totalled his right hand/wrist.

It didn’t take long for Marquez, De Angelis and Bradl to pull out a lead at the front and with 20 laps to go they were one second ahead of chasing man Yonny Hernandez.

A mistake by Marquez near the half-way point allowed Bradl to take the lead whilst Thomas Luthi had joined the leading three to make it a foursome.

There was some lovely racing from the front four, particularly Marquez and De Angelis as they battled for second with Luthi in fourth watching on.

With seven laps remaining it was all change as Marquez dove up past Bradl on the final corner to take the lead and Luthi grabbed third at turn one.

Randy Krummenacher was the man on the charge towards the end of the race as he pushed his way up to fourth from his 15th place qualifying.
