Norton are throwing their name into the hat to join the 2012 MotoGP grid it seems.
With rumours abound that BMW and Aprilia are both keen, Austrian journalist Gunther Wiesinger is reporting that Norton have asked Dorna for two places on the 2012 grid as a privateer CRT team rather than a factory prototype team.
Norton boss Stuart Garner has submitted a signed application to Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpelata to race when the MotoGP class returns to 1,000cc.
According to various sources, this is part of a wider long-term plan by Norton to begin producing high-tech road bikes moving forward.
