The Piaggo Group, which includes the brands; Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, Piaggio, Scarabeo and Vespa, has today announced that their market share in 2009 has risen by 1.7% compared with 2008. Their 50cc scooter range performed best with a 2.1% market share increase to 33.6% with five of their product families being in the top ten bestsellers.
Their 50-700cc range increased by just 0.2% to 5.5%, and the over 700cc range was 1.3% to 8% market share. All of these figures are the Piaggo Groups Italian market share only.
The data published by Confindustria Ancma, the association of Italy’s leading two-wheeler constructors, was published today and the group are particularly pleased with the rise in the over 700cc market share.
It puts the rise in market share in the over 50cc market down to Aprilia and Moto Guzzi with a 6.9% rise in December alone.
Among the most successful product ranges on the Italian market, the Piaggio Group presented five of the ten bestselling lines in over 50cc scooters in 2009: Piaggio Beverly and Liberty, Scarabeo, Vespa GTS and Vespa LX.
