After going it alone in British Supersport following the demise of East Coast Racing, roads specialist Gary Johnson has signed with GBmoto for the last two rounds of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
The TT winner from Lincolnshire has had no shortage of offers for the remainder of the season but has decided to continue with the ex-Sam Lowes Supersport Honda as well riding the GBmoto 1000cc machine vacated by the injured Alex Cudlin.
Before leaving for this weekend’s Silverstone round, Johnson said, “GBmoto are a superb team and I’m really happy to be joining them for the last two rounds. As everyone knows, I’m no stranger to National Superstock 1000: I did the last few rounds there last year on a Honda and we were running in the top five. After a bit of adjustment from the 600 I hope I can repay Mark and the team with some strong results. I know it won’t be easy as there are a lot of quick lads out there, but I’m going to knuckle down and put in the hard work.”
Team boss, Mark Smith-Halvorsen added “Gary seems to be a good choice for GBmoto Racing, as we attempt to bring our first season in the British championships to a very successful conclusion. His well recognised all round riding ability makes him a natural fit, in addition to his extensive experience on Honda 1000RR machinery. We are looking forward to working with him at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.”
