Chelsea can still climb Premier League table - Thibaut Courtois

Some Chelsea players came in for criticism from the Blues fans, who voiced their support for Mourinho throughout the game.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says the Blues still have what it takes to climb up the Premier League table this season. "I still feel the same way inside but it's my duty to get on and work", Holland said, adding that Mourinho had invited him out for a meal next week.

Guus Hiddink was earlier confirmed as interim manager until the end of the season, but Holland took charge for the afternoon's clash against the Black Cats.

"I think all of us are in this position, there's not one or two individuals. The manager going doesn't change that we are responsible, and to be 16th in the table is not acceptable from us".

The 69-year-old Hiddink's latest firefighting role comes with Chelsea only four points above the Premier League relegation zone following an alarming slump just seven months after sweeping to the title.

"The first half they played well in general".

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is trying to persuade club legend Didier Drogba, who was his guest on Saturday and watched the Sunderland game sitting next to the Russian and Hiddink, to join the club staff for a third time.

But Terry lauded the performance of the players and also said that Chelsea supporters must move forward.

"The first half [against Sunderland] was very good for us, we played really well".

"We know that it (losing to Norwich) is not good enough for us", Van Gaal told Sky Sports.

"Then we saw Chelsea a little nervous then, we created more chances but didn't look like getting a result from the start".

"All of us has a responsibility for what has happened and all of us are responsible for where we are in this moment", he said.

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain John Terry has dismissed media reports that Mourinho's sacking was caused by a mutiny in the dressing room, denying that any players had deliberately performed badly in order to hasten his departure.
