Eagles To Interview Tom Coughlin For Head Coaching Job

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday Tom Coughlin said he was interested in coaching again. And it appears he's wasting no time in exploring other opportunities.

The Eagles have set up an interview with Tom Coughlin, the two-time Super Bowl victor who resigned as Giants coach earlier this week, FoxSports and ESPN reported. They canned Chip Kelly with two years remaining on his contract and owner Jeffrey Lurie blasted Kelly after he sent him backing, all-but calling Kelly a control-freak robot. Would ramp up an already tasty rivalry. And the Eagles would have to feel like they're getting over on their rivals by grabbing the coach who led the Giants to a pair of Super Bowl titles. In order to sign with Philly, Coughlin must reach a settlement with the Giants.

Though Tom Coughlin resigned, sources close to the team say it was a quit-or-be-fired scenario. This sort of switching sides it not unprecedented, though.

As the Giants search for a new head coach continues, everything must be taken into consideration before this monumental decision is made.

The league's oldest active coach and third-longest tenured among the 32 who finished the season, Coughlin came into 2015 knowing he had to get the Giants back to the postseason to keep his job. We did not give him the best possible personnel to play with, he did the best he could with what he had.

Coughlin's first job in the National Football League was in Philadelphia, as the Eagles' receivers coach in 1984 and 1985.
