Clemson holds on in wild affair, tops Florida State 37-34

Florida State defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi back and defensive back Kyle Meyers stop scrambling Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson in the first half

Florida State will likely send the ACC league office its case regarding several of the pivotal calls in Saturday night's loss and, based on Jimbo Fisher's comments, the league office will be in touch. We keep finding a way to win and that tells you about the resiliency of our team.

Was it another close win that almost turned into defeat? "They're going to throw haymakers, we're going to throw haymakers". Penalties had a huge impact on the game, a sign of miscues in a huge game and some judgement calls by the officials that are getting questioned on Sunday morning.

There was that six-point win against Louisville on October 1, when a receiver's weird move out of bounds in the last minute preserved victory.

Wayne Gallman led Clemson's rushing attack with 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

South Carolina 24, (18) Tennessee 21: Jake Bentley threw for two touchdowns, Rico Dowdle ran for 127 yards and another score and the Gamecocks (4-4, 2-4 SEC) handed the Volunteers their third straight loss in Columbia, South Carolina. It was Cook whose late touchdown, his fourth of the night, staked FSU to a 34-29 lead. He got 120 yards on six (!) carries, and scored two touchdowns, while adding another in the fourth.

On the defensive side of the ball, far too many big plays have been allowed in 2016, but, at the end of games, the defense has been stellar. FSU plays at N.C. State Saturday.

And all three faced off against each other in October.

The Tigers return home to host Syracuse on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Memorial Stadium.

The Seminoles were flagged 13 times for 111 yards, a figure which included back-to-back false start penalties on their final drive of the game.

Cook is a beast, and National Football League scouts saw what he can do when a hard edge isn't set and he's able to get around it, but Clemson won't have to face him ever again, and D-coordinator Brent Venables couldn't have been happier about that. It's the Tigers' fifth one-score victory of the season and won their 22nd consecutive regular-season game, the longest streak in the FBS.

Watson completed 9 of 10 passes for 98 yards and rushed four times for 32 yards on the team's first two series.

This year's meeting never had the same stakes because of Clemson's two-game edge on Florida State, and its tiebreaker-aided edge on Louisville. However, on the Seminoles' next play, former Orangeburg-Wilkinson standout and current Tiger Jadar Johnson intercepted the Francois pass and returned it to the Tigers' own 32-yard line. The Noles punted three plays later. Instead, Clemson kicked a go-ahead field goal on its ensuing possession.

This was an average to below average performance from this unit, which gave up eight plays of 20 yards or more.

The Miami native got the Seminoles on the board with a 4-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter, and he gave them their first lead with a 43-yard scoring scamper in the third. Cook is a monster who nearly always gets his numbers.

FSU made it as deep as the Clemson 39-yard line after the Tigers took the lead with 2:06 to go.
