Ayrton Badovini is set for an aggressive race at the Magny Cours circuit this weekend. Xavi Fores will race in his second Superbike event. Zanetti and Barrier are expected to put up a fight in Superstock.
The BWM Motorrad Italia Superbike Team, following the event at Imola which again saw Badovini in the top ten in both races, prepares for the penultimate round of the 2011 Superbike World Championship. Racing takes place next Sunday at the French circuit of Magny Cours, a short distance from the town of Nevers. The Italian team, led by Serafino Foti, will focus on maintaining a top ten place in the World Championship, an important goal for the team’s first year in the Superbike series.
Ayrton Badovini has ridden great races at the French track in the past. In addition to last year when he ran with the S 1000 RR, he rode the MV Agusta in 2007.
Xavi Fores, will race for the second time on a Superbike and, while knowing the track, he last raced there in 2009. He will continue his apprenticeship in the saddle of a motorbike that’s more powerful than any he has ridden before.
The Superstock team is expected to redeem itself after the event at Imola. Both riders suffered a fall and it is hoped that there will be no after-effects in France. Sylvain Barrier will certainly want a good race in front of his home crowd, trying to defend his current position of fourth in the FIM Cup. Last year Sylvain took a podium, finishing third. Lorenzo Zanetti will be aiming to claim a top position. Just two points behind the rider ahead in second, Lorenzo will be looking to at least consolidate his third place in the FIM Cup. Lorenzo finished fourth at Magny Cours in 2010.
Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Superbike Team Italy, before leaving for France, said: “We go to Magny Cours confident of a good result. We seem to be benefiting from time and fortune and hope that Ayrton can again be riding at the front with the best in the series.Fores, after his Superbike debut race at Imola will have a better suited bike in France.I think in Superstock the series is more or less decided after Zanetti’s fall in Imola, unless we have some serious plot twists. Regardless, we head to Magny Cours with our usual determination and we think that Sylvain will have a great race at his home track.”
