Former World Superbike champion James Toseland announced on Facebook today (Wednesday) that he has proposed to his girlfriend, singer Katie Melua, and she has said yes.
“Hey everyone, I’ve got some happy news to share with you, I asked Katie to marry me and she said Yes! As you can imagine, I am a very happy man right now :)” said Toseland on Facebook.
The pair have been dating since April 2011 and this week Katie was seen with an engagement ring whilst at Hamburg airport.
Katie was previously in a relationship with Luke Pritchard, frontman from the Kooks.
Melua and Toseland met via Katie’s keyboard player Jim Watson who spotted Toseland in the audience at one of her concerts in Sheffield.
Toseland, who was forced into early retirement after a wrist injury last year, had previously said that he loves how his new fiancee doesn’t care about his success.
“Katie has been great. She had no interest in me whatsoever because I was a motorcycle racer. She hadn’t heard of me. She wouldn’t even know what Valentino Rossi looked like.
“It was only because her piano player was such a fan that he kept talking about it on the tour bus after he’d met me. It was nice and a relief for someone so established to be attracted to me because of my personality.”
