Unlike last year’s near freezing temperatures, we had a beautiful Arizona winter’s day with moderate temperatures along with the almost always sunny skies. I started my morning by picking up a group of Moto Guzzi owners in North Phoenix. We all then headed to Tortilla Flats which was a stagecoach stop along the Apache Trail for travelers going from Mesa to the Roosevelt Dam construction site.
On our way there, we picked up another group of riders consisting of the local Triumph owner’s club along with an old two stroke H2 Kawasaki 750 triple.
The ride up the Apache Trail (AZ SR88) was surprisingly devoid of traffic which made for some great riding along this tight, technical and scenic road.
This tradition was started years ago by a group of vintage bike owners that needed an excuse to get their antiques out of the garage for a ride. Since then, this event has grown exponentially depending on the weather. You can bet on seeing a wide variety of motorcycles up here on a good day.
This is a fine Arizona tradition and a great way to start your year, on your motorcycle! If you’re ever in the Phoenix area during the holidays, make sure you can get on a motorcycle and head on up.
Enjoy the photos below along with video of the ride down from Tortilla Flat down into town.
