As the bikes lined up on the grid for race one we had a complete change of weather. Whilst things where cold there was no sign of the rain that had turned the ground to mud during Superpole.
The most successful riders at Miller are Checa, Spies and Biaggi who all have double victories and Checa stayed on course for that record again with a win here.
It was a great start from Biaggi as he shot to the front using the power of the Aprilia but short lived as Troy Corser came through to take the lead.
Biaggi and Rea had a coming together on the first lap and both went down and out of the race and Rea was not happy with Biaggi at all who wasn’t exactly standing up for himself.
Checa then began to move through the field, taking Haga who was in second and then catching and passing Corser for the lead and with 16 laps to go he began to disappear into the distance.
The shenanigans at the front meant that Camier and Laverty where catching the leading group of Corser, Haga and Guintoli.
With 14 laps to go Corser started to have a nightmare and lost a number of places as Guintoli, Camier and Laverty all passed him shuffling him back to sixth.
Eugene laverty was another riding cutting through the field and half-way through the lap count he was up to second ahead of Guintoli, however it was short lived as just one lap later Guintoli pulled a similar move and took second place back from Laverty.
Troy Corser’s day went from bad to worse as it looks like his choice of tyre let him down as he went backwards quickly.
Leon Camier had a fine race finishing in fourth despite being way down the pack mid race, but he managed to regroup and cut through the field.
But this was a fantastic performance from Carlos Checa, though he needs to work on his celebrations as, whilst trying to grab a flag, he managed to ditch the bike into the grass on his lap of honour!
