Hardhat, developed by the virtual reality firm DAQRI, is powered by Intel's 6th Gen Core m7 processor and equipped with RealSense 3D camera that is capable of overlaying computer images on the real world.
Intel has debuted a brand new set augmented reality glasses at CES 2016, which grants users the ability to see objects with "x-ray vision" in what the company hopes will be a major leap forward for companies in the industrial and manufacturing businesses. Wearers of the Daqri Smart Helmet, as the headset has been dubbed, can effectively peer into the workings of equipment in real time.
The DAQRI Smart Helmet is an industrial-grade, human-machine interface that inserts real-time information - including Augmented and Mixed Reality work instructions, safety information, mapping and more.
The Smart Helmet is aimed at maximizing safety and productivity for workers.
No information has been revealed about how much the Daqri Smart Helmet will cost, but it has been slated for an early 2016 release and could see wearables finally making headway in the enterprise world with compelling and flexible applications.
DAQRI founder Brian Mullins said: "Intel is transforming industry with its advanced technologies".
Intel, Intel Core and Intel RealSense may be trademarks or registered trademarks of Intel in the United States and some other countries.
A 360-degree array of sensors allows the helmet to track a wearer's movement and vision and provide information such as step-by-step instructions on how to carry out a task.
However Intel might have beaten Microsoft to the punch as the Daqri Smart Helmet will actually be shipping later this quarter, so companies that might have a need for the technology should keep an eye out for it.
"We have already demonstrated how the use of Augmented Reality hardware and software solves problems for our partners and, with the addition of Intel technology, we are supercharging DAQRI SMART HELMET so that we can continue to drive the future of work".
Bridget Karlin, MD for Intel's Internet of Things strategy office believes that the Smart device has been created to solve fundamental and day-to-day problems that are faced in the industrial set-up of today.
