1 dead, 4 hurt in highway shootout; bullet holes cover SUV

New Jersey State Police released surveillance photos of a pickup truck that may be involved in a shooting on the Atlantic City Expressway on Monday that left one man dead.

Police said they received reports of a shooting on the Atlantic City Expressway, followed a short time later by calls for medical assistance about 5 miles away on the Garden State Parkway and at a convenience store 2 miles away.

Rosemond Octavius, 22, was killed in the shooting that happened in his hometown, Egg Harbor Township.

Three men and a 16-year-old who were in an SUV were also shot and wounded, and two of them remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition.

Authorities say the Ford Expedition they were traveling in had sustained an estimated 21 gunshots. Troopers are still searching areas for additional evidence, so motorists could expect further police activity in the vicinity.

Hicks was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful goal and certain persons not to possess a firearm.

They all face weapons charges. Hicks was uninjured in the shooting and in possession of a handgun.

State police Capt. Stephen Jones said police were investigating whether a third auto was involved in the shooting based on witness tips.

Shaun Stukes, 38, of Atlantic City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful objective, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a defaced firearm and employing a juvenile in a crime. Troopers charged five suspects, including four adults and one juvenile, with weapons offenses. Authorities say 911 calls first came in around 3 p.m. Monday.

Police said the Expedition had four total occupants, all of whom were transported to the hospital for gunshot wounds and various other injuries. At least one other victim was found shot on the Garden State Parkway. NJ.com reported that the investigation into the shootout is being conducted jointly, by State Police and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

A vehicle was found pulled over on the shoulder of the northbound Garden State Parkway just north of the Atlantic City Expressway with a dead passenger inside, according to police. In a statement to Action News, Wawa officials say the shooting did not take place inside their store or in the parking lot.
