Jorge Lorenzo Shows Off New Sponsor
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010Jorge Lorenzo was in Barcelona today to show off his new personal sponsor Garmin, manufacturers of GPS navigation units. The presentation was held at the Hotel Barcelo Sants whose gym Jorge trains in every day.
Although Lorenzo didn’t have the best of testing sessions in Qatar, because of an injury to his hand, he’s convinced that April 11th he’ll be able to fight for the victory in the first race of the season.
Lorenzo has just two months of recovery from the fracture of the first metacarpal of his right hand that was caused whilst training on a motocross bike during pre-season.
“Right now we are competitive, but for the hand injury, I think that in a matter of weeks our performance on the track can change a lot,” said Lorenzo adding that in the short circuit at Qatar he was forced to wear a carbon fiber brace and widen the right glove.
Lorenzo said “I am now a patient person in every way and I know when to risk and move or when I cut the gas. The Yamaha was already a winning bike, but every year we take steps, small but successful, to make it better. I think the new chassis gives more grip in the middle of the curve and that the engine has a tad more power.”
The young Spaniard will not share telemetry this season with teammate and rival, Valentino Rossi. The nine-times world champion has specifically asked the team not to share information but Lorenzo didn’t seem worried.
“I’m not a rider who is pursuing other paths or roads to copy someone else, so do not think it’s an issue that could harm me.”
Lorenzo will be hoping that Garmin’s marketing slogan of ‘follow the leader’ doesn’t backfire.
