This Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, photo, shows a "5 for $4" deal at a Burger King restaurant in NY.
Not leaving much time Burger King this week followed suit with a deal of the same sort called "5 for $4" deal. Mozzarella sticks are officially being added to the menu nationwide after a successful test run in NY.
It's not just the fast food burger giants that are fighting for customers looking for lots of food for little money. That's a bacon cheeseburger, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries, a drink and a cookie for $4.
They're part of McDonald's new McPick 2 for $2 menu, which lets you mix and match four value menu items to make a "personalized combination meal". Customers may order two of the following items for $2: McChicken, McDouble, mozzarella sticks or small french fries.
Tony Pace, ex-chief marketing officer of Subway who now manages a marketing consulting firm said, "People look at what other folks are doing, and if they think they're getting traction, they say we need to do a version of that".
Which meal deal gets your attention this most? The company first said the McPick 2 would run for five weeks, but it has already indicated the promotion will drive sales.
Also joining the cheap meal deal competition among fast food chains is Pizza Hut.
Pizza Hut has advertised that the deal is available for a "limited time only" and the Papa John's promotion only lasts until the end of the month, a fact that doesn't impress Domino's.
And Pizza Hut yesterday rolled out a $5 Flavor Menu. It seems fast food chains are eager to help us consumers with goal.
