PlayStation VR Has "100 or More Titles" in Development, Says Kaz Hirai

Sony's CEO revealed that its PlayStation VR will have more than 100 games.

Given that we were expecting the virtual reality headset to be way under the announced $600 retail price, and something around $350, at the statement made during this week's CES event, gamers and VR enthusiasts all around the world took to the internet with sharpened pitchforks and burning torches. The headset will likely launch in the second half of the year, which means we may see a price and release date at E3 this year, if not slightly earlier. In contrast, there are more than 36 million PlayStation 4 consoles in use capable of supporting PlayStation VR.

Now it doesn't have anywhere near the same number of titles as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but it's clear that Sony is really pushign for a varied catalogue from indie developers and established old-hands.

According to Oculus Boss, Palmer Luckey, Sony's PlayStation VR is not as "High-End" as Oculus Rift, but it is still a "Good Headset" and Oculus is really looking forward to the challenge in 2016.

Frank Azor, Alienware founder, has said on Thursday that the company will offer an Oculus Rift and Alienware X51 gaming desktop bundle at a discounted price to customers. The bundle drops the price of the Oculus Rift down to $399.

His comments came as part of an interview with IB Times, in which the interviewer suggested that PlayStation VR is the one headset best poised to compete with Rift. It's a smart move, rather than focusing on beating its competitors to become the first VR device to market, it's playing the waiting game.
