Federal Bureau of Investigation to 'evaluate' Brad Pitt's alleged child abuse incident

Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their six kids were on a private plane that left Nice, France, en route to Los Angeles. A report by TMZ claims Pitt "lunged" at one of his children and "connected in some fashion with his son". The alleged incident took place on Sept 14 on a private jet flying from France to the U.S. (to Los Angeles, with a stop in Minnesota).

The LAPD says they have not received any reports or phone calls about an incident that allegedly occurred on the couple's private plane while Jolie and some of their kids were present.

Jolie and Pitt were reportedly arguing during the flight, prompting Maddox to defend his mother.

TMZ said the plane landed at an undisclosed airport about 8 p.m. September 14, "and witnesses say Pitt continued his rant on the tarmac, and even tried leaving in one of the fuel trucks". Let's be really clear here: that really does mean they're just assessing the facts at hand, before deciding if they should launch a full-scale probe into the alleged incident.

The initial story from TMZ states Pitt was inebriated in the air, where he had allegedly flown into a rage.

People magazine reports that Jolie was a witness, as she was travelling with her family.

L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services officials are also reported to be investigating the alleged incident. TMZ also reported this.

Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services could not confirm nor deny it was involved in an allegation involving Pitt.

Another source added: "He takes the investigation very seriously and he is cooperating fully.

We have confirmed with the detectives, and according to our detectives there are no active investigations regarding Brad Pitt". "We have no investigation involving Mr. Pitt".

As the incident occurred in the air on an worldwide flight, the case has been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the agency has yet to open a formal investigation, but noted they are still gathering information surrounding the incident.
