Legal relief bound to strengthen Yeddyurappa within BJP

Justice Dharmagoudar acquitted 12 other accused in the case, including Yeddyurappa's two sons, son-in-law, steel maker JSW Steel and four Bellary-based JSW steel affiliates, on Wednesday. I always have faith on judiciary and it comes to my rescue.

" The court also acquitted all others in the bribery case".

"He has said earlier that the case against him was politically motivated", Sharma said. The CBI had charged that the personal bank accounts of Yeddyurappa's sons B Y Raghavendra - now a BJP MLA in Karnataka - and B Y Vijayendra, and a son-in-law Sohan Kumar received R20 crore between August and September 2010 from a JSW Steel-affiliate South West Mining Company.

Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, in chapter 22 of his 2011 report on illegal mining in the State, had referred to the transactions between M/s South West Mining Company and Prerana Trust and recommended a probe, accusing Yeddyurappa of illegally favouring the mining companies. The BJP wants Yeddyurappa to repeat the victory of 2008 in 2018 and govern effectively to reap a rich harvest of 23 to 25 seats for the BJP in Karnataka in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Buoyed by the CBI court's verdict giving him a clean chit in a case related to illegal mining in Ballari, state BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa is likely to turn aggressive and train his guns on the state government and his foes in the party with the latter left with no choice but accept all his decisions.

He said senior leader K S Eshwarappa, who has been associating himself with the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade, has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that the BJP's mammoth Other Backward Classes (OBC) convention in Bengaluru on November 27 is a success.

Outside the court premises, Mr Yeddyurappa's supporters broke into spontaneous celebrations as they raised slogans in his praise and burst crackers. The acquittal is a major relief for the ongman, who after taking over as the state strongman, who after taking over as the state unit chief in April, has not been able to revive the party.

In New Delhi, the Congress on Wednesday described the CBI as the government's "pet performing poodle", and party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters: "If there is or was or continues to be any open and shut case of corruption and misconduct, it is the case pertaining to Yeddyurappa".
