National Football League interviews Ezekiel Elliott as part of domestic violence probe

Report: NFL interviewed Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott about domestic incident

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott "could face a lengthy suspension" as the result of an National Football League investigation into allegations of domestic violence, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports. Under the two-year-old conduct policy governing domestic violence incidents and allegations, which tightened after the Ray Rice fiasco, Elliott could still be suspended in the absence of charges.

Elliott's now ex-girlfriend told police in July that Elliott abused her on five separate occassions from July 17 through July 22, 2016, according to the Columbus (Ohio) City Attorney's Office.

Smith has been impressed with Elliott since he was gashing Big Ten defenses at Ohio State, and Elliott is well aware of the expectations he has to live up to by running with same star Smith wore on his helmet.

Mara pointed out that the Giants did not know "the extent" of alleged incidents involving Brown, a comment that led many to wonder how much domestic violence is acceptable. Elliott is likely to have similar naysayers, as the Cowboys' current unit is widely considered the best set of run-blockers in the league.

"This is the guy that that we've got to hurt", Baldinger said of Elliott.

"I'm sick of hearing everybody talk about how good the offensive line is, and how good this guy is".

Per Pelissero, league spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to confirm Elliott's interview, but said the league is still reviewing the matter.

Last week at the owners' meetings in Houston, Dallas owner Jerry Jones spoke with Lisa Friel, a former NY prosecutor who heads the league's domestic violence investigations.

Whatever happens in this case, and it may very well be that nothing is warranted, everyone will be watching closely.
