Kawasaki Unveils Trophy in Honour of Team Green Founder
Friday, April 16th, 2010With an unquenchable passion for racing either on tarmac or via his beloved motocross, Alec Wright extended an influence across a huge swathe of motorcycle competition in the UK and Europe.
With his recent sad passing, many have reflected on the legacy of the man that created and grew the Team Green concept into surely the most high profile and respected ownership and competition package in the two wheeled world.
In recognition of Alec’s unerring ambition to encourage the very best levels of performance and professionalism from Team Green riders, Kawasaki Motors UK has commissioned the Alec Wright Memorial Trophy.
To be awarded on an annual basis from the 2010 season forward, the trophy will highlight the Team Green rider each year that has produced the most outstanding racing achievement coupled with the highest levels of presentation and sportsmanship.
Created in consultation with his family, the new Alec Wright Memorial Trophy represents a tangible link with the values that Alec Wright instilled in all Team Green riders and that continues to this day, as Sales and Marketing Manager for Kawasaki Motors UK, Michael Johnstone, explains.
“With the recent re-introduction of the Team Green philosophy into road racing via our new Team Green Junior Superstock initiative, we now have an impressive stable of Team Green competitors to choose from over the year, plus an added incentive for each of them to excel in a way which will make them candidates for this prestigious trophy.”
Endorsing the award on behalf of Alec Wright’s family, his son, Colin, conveyed their feelings.
“Alec was a Kawasaki man through and through. Having created the Team Green concept he dedicated the rest of his life to ensuring its success and recognition. The whole family is delighted that his memory will be honoured in this way and, equally, that the winner each year will be the rider that best embodies Alec’s unswerving Team Green vision”.
