'Making A Murderer's Steven Avery & His Fiancée Sit D…

Steven Avery and fiancee Lynn Hartman on “Dr. Phil”

Steven Avery, the subject of Netflix documentary "Making a Murderer", and his new fiancee Lynn Hartman are opening up to Dr. Phil about their newfound love.

Calling Hartman from prison, for the first time in a broadcast interview, Avery discussed topics with McGraw ranging from his pending nuptials and his infamy to his hope that actor Brad Pitt might portray him in a film about his life.

Lynn Hartman, the new partner, will chat with Dr. Phil in the studio while Avery joins in via phone from Waupun Correctional Institute, where he is now serving a prison sentence for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

Two years after Avery was released from prison after serving 18 years for a rape he didn't commit, he and his nephew Brendan Dassey were arrested for the murder of Teresa Halbach on their family property in 1995.

Hartman, a legal secretary, says she began writing to Avery earlier this year and just met him face to face two weeks ago.

As for his former relationships, which were a point of contention in the Netflix documentary about Avery's murder trial, Avery says his love with Hartman is nothing like he's ever felt.

"I haven't been in love my whole life". Avery, who maintains his innocence, tells Dr. Phil he doesn't want to marry his fiancée until he's out of prison: "I want to wait 'till I'm out, and I don't think that'll be too long".

Netflix's documentary series Making a Murderer set the true-crime-loving world on fire when it premiered on the streaming channel late a year ago. "Everything is all different with her".

Avery, who was the subject of Netflix's Emmy-winning true-crime documentary series, will call into the daytime talk show as part of a two-part episode airing October 3 and 4 (check local listings), the show announced Thursday.
