Su'a Cravens interception seals Redskins' victory over Giants

PHILADELPHIA PA- DECEMBER 26 De Sean Jackson #11 of the Washington Redskins reacts in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles

The Redskins will need all the help they can get to hold on to this game against the hated New York Giants. Romeo Okwara blocked a Way punt in the fourth quarter, but instead of the Giants getting the ball on the Redskins 18, an unnecessary roughness penalty on Andrew Adams had them replay fourth down.

With six seconds left in the first half and the Giants holding onto a 21-16 lead, the Redskins had the ball on the 4-yard line and inexplicably chose to go for it rather than kick a field goal. Discipline was always a hallmark of Tom Coughlin's teams, and while it appeared Ben McAdoo picked up that mantle through the first two games, this contest in Washington has shed some doubt on his ability to keep his players composed. The Giants made it a costly decision for Washington as Jason Pierre-Paul sacked Kirk Cousins, stripped him, and NY hopped on the fumble. The Redskins were battered and bruised in the game but hung around.

In a 26-24 game, Dunbar atoned for his mistake earlier and made a key interception in the end zone with 13:35 left in the fourth quarter, halting a Giants drive that seemed destined for points.

Additionally, the Giants ranked 2nd in the league previous year with 48.6 penalty yards per game, and retained their top five ranking through two games this season, averaging 32.5 penalty yards per game.

In their pre-game ritual before the game against the New York Giants Sunday, the players raised their fists in a Black power salute.

The Giants (2-1) built a 21-9 lead on touchdown runs by Vereen and Orleans Darkwa sandwiched around a 23-yard touchdown pass from Manning to receiver Sterling Shepard. Clearly, this game was an aberration for the Giants' disciplinary record over the past two seasons, but hurt them against Washington nonetheless. Beckham, who also crossed the 3,000-yard mark in this game, becomes the first receiver in National Football League history to accomplish both milestones in 30 games. He was replaced by Brett Jones to finish out the game. The Giants saw rookie cornerback Eli Apple (hamstring) and veteran DB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin) leave the game. He was also called for a pass interference penalty on a pick play on the game's final drive.

The Giants moved ahead 27-26 with 7:53 remaining in the game on a 30-yard field goal by Josh Brown. Unfortunately for them, their offense struggled with turnovers and penalties that stalled the unit.
