Honda started in 1946 by Soichiro Honda, originally producing piston rings, Honda’s initial idea was to provide cheap transportation to the people after the second World War. Whereas most European motorcycle manufacturers where resting on their initial successes, Honda forged ahead, pushing technology and producing reliable, easy-to-ride, economical and, above all, cheap motorcycles. Today Honda is the largest producer of motorcycles, and indeed internal combustion engines, in the world.
