Kawasaki celebrates 2009 sales success

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

With five new models for 2010 Kawasaki is applauding the efforts of its dealer network and the loyalty of its customers in a recession struck 2009.

Despite economic woes, and a overall decline in the motorcycle market, the Japanese manufacturer achieved its highest market share in eight years in 2009. With a growth of some 4% in its traditional market of machines in the 126cc and above category it ended the year with an overall market share in the this particular sector of over 12%.

Kawasaki attributes the sales down the machines such as the Ninja ZX-6R which was declared the best selling machine of its type.

However, Kawasaki also managed to push the Americans aside to achieve the top selling Cruiser machines last year with their entry level V-twin custom, the VN900.

Michael Johnstone, Kawasaki UK Sales and Marketing Manager said “What a great year 2009 was. Our growth in the face of harsh economic times – and while other manufacturers saw their share of the market decline - bears testament to our amazingly enthusiastic customers and excellent Kawasaki dealers.”

“Of course we are pleased to maintain our place as a significant player in the Supersports market. That said, the growth in cruiser sales and particularly the 250cc entry level market bodes well for us and the market as a whole going into the 2010 season. With five new machines, we are looking forward to another year of strong sales”.
