Team launches are usually only reserved for the press. Stuffy affairs with little personality, fact sheets are given out, hands are shaken and people who have always talked, talk some more.
Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki however are different, very different. Their team launch was open to all, if you could make it (or find) the venue just outside Bedford then you were welcome.
And welcomed we were, within a few minutes of myself and our new British Superbike reporter Dave Neal arriving we were approached by one of the head honchos of Pr1mo (assuming Enzo), hand shakes all round and a nice chat with a thoroughly nice guy.
The bikes of riders Chris ‘The Stalker’ Walker, James Hillier and both of Maria Costello’s TT motorcycles were on view, the Kawasaki ZX-10R’s gleaming gracefully.
The riders themselves were open and wondering around, mixing with the fans, signing autographs and chatting away.
There’s an air of confidence that comes from the Bournemouth Kawasaki team for the 2012 season that’s almost upon us. They have some good riders: Chris Walker is on a Kawasaki for the second year running and is looking forward to it. James Hillier is looking forward to the season, although calendar clashes could stop him from showing his true potential in the BSB season.
Maria Costello has goals for the road racing season, ones she wants to keep to herself at the moment, but we think one may be to get the fastest woman around the TT title back from Jenny.
Kyle Wilks is the young protagonist fighting it out in the Superstock 600 category and so with all bases covered, it looks like Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki are ready to go.
Oh and the drink, Pr1mo is nice, kiwi and something flavour was on offer, no idea if it will keep you awake or not but it’s a nice taste.
