The new four-rider Buildbase BMW Motorrad team is fired up for the next round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship at Thruxton in Hampshire.
Following last weekend’s Easter season opener at a rain-lashed Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, which brought year’s first podium in Superstock 1000, the team headed directly to the Hampshire circuit to prepare.
Steve Brogan took the team’s first podium finish with a second place in the Superstock 1000 series, with fellow Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Howie Mainwaring finishing in the points.
The first BSB race of the year started well, with new rider Dan Linfoot storming to a sixth place position before losing the front in the torrential rain. Barry Burrell, who resigned for a second year with the team, brought his bike home in 19th position.
The second race was cancelled due to a combination of poor weather and track contamination. The race has now been rescheduled for Sunday 6th May on the Bank Holiday weekend at Oulton Park, making the fixture a triple-header.
Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: “Well, it’s fair to say we’ve been pretty much flat out since the last race at Brands. The team have been setting up the bikes for Thruxton, which should be a very good circuit for us as it’ll suit the powerful BMW S 1000 RRs.
“The first round of the season was rather dramatic, to say the least! Steve Brogan took second place in the very wet Superstock 1000 race, while team mate Howie Mainwaring brought his bike home in 12th place and secured his first points for BMW. The Superbike results weren’t quite what we wanted, the performance was more than I expected so early, with both riders in the top ten for most of the weekend. We’ve proven we can mix it at the sharp end, now we just need some good weather!”
