Buildbase BMW Test At Mallory With Noise Diffusers

Buildbase BMW - Mallory Park Testing 2012

British Superbike squad Buildbase BMW displayed big power output whilst keeping it quiet last week as they competed shakedown tests at Mallory Park on a Focused Events trackday, operating at a super quiet 96dB.

Using the team’s local Mallory circuit to test the new 2012 BMW S1000RR under the latest BSB rules, (including non-traction control as per the forthcoming Superbike series regulations) the squad were able to obtain good data and blow the cobwebs out of the riders. Teammembers Dan Linfoot and Barry Burrell circulated the Leicestershire track at a good pace, seemingly unhampered by the restricted noise output.

The circuit has recently introduced a 98dB restriction on Saturdays and the Buildbase BMW team played it even safer as they killed the sound of their awesome BMW Superbikes down to 96dB, with a noise diffuser.

The test proved a point to many trackday regulars, showing that a BSB team could not only get down to that noise restriction but also that they could continue to turn out good power and turn in impressive lap times.

Focused Events owner Kevin Healy said, “It was great to have the Buildbase team here and a real eye opener for many people that the bikes could run so competitively at just 96dB. It goes to show that modern machines are developed as road bikes first and then modified for race use so restricting the noise doesn’t kill the power.

The message is, don’t be put off by noise limits on trackdays, keep your bike legal, you’ll have just as much fun and crucially, this will let circuits continue to host events even in sensitive areas.”

The test continues a collaboration between BMW and Focused Events with the trackday company utilising BMW S1000RR machines for customer demo rides under their ongoing Supersport and Superbike hire days.

Trackday customers can try ‘litre class’ machinery; including the BMW S1000RR, Ducati 1198, Kawasaki ZX-10R, KTM RC8R, Suzuki GSXR1000 and Yamaha YZF-R1 plus in the Supersport class; Triumph Daytona 675/ 675R models, Suzuki GSXR 600, Ducati 848/848 Evo, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Yamaha YZF-R6 machines.
