It was tight at the top and no one was willing to concede but Guiver took the lead in the penultimate lap and separated himself from his competitors by 1.5 seconds.
The three way battle between Guiver, James Egan and Phillip Atkinson was relentless. Guiver started from pole and was able to continue his lead off the line. Atkinson passed Egan on the inside was then able to overtake Guiver on the first lap.
However, Guiver pursued Atkinson and was able to regain the position before the end of the second lap. But, with one mistake at Church Egan was able to pass Guiver, quickly followed by Atkinson who moved past both and took the lead.
After two attempts, and top three running level through Allard, Egan passed Atkinson on lap seven and led for half a lap before being passed on the inside by Guiver. On lap eight Guiver had a moment and was passed once again by the two other front runners but on lap ten went around the outside and reclaimed the lead.
Running ten seconds behind the top three, Chrissy Rouse and Sam Cox were in a race of their own. Both TTC novices got a good start from the second row and quickly passed Valter Patronen and Tom Weeden. Cox was able to overtake Rouse but the Triumph Young Guns winner was hot on his tail and retook the position in lap three.
Cox was close behind in the final lap and slip streamed Rouse just before the finish line. It was a photo finish for Cox who was less than three hundredths of a second ahead.
The 21-year-old from East London has now moved up to 2nd in the Premier Championship and commented: “I knew I had the pace looking at the free practise times but to actually go out and do that in the race was really special and something I’ll never forget.”
The top three in the Premier class were Egan and Cox followed by Piers Hutchins who progressed from 8th to 6th.
Unluckily, Dan Fuller had technical issues with his engine again and was unable to continue after the warm up. Justin Bateman also had issues with the setup of his bike this weekend but was able to finish in 15th.
Atkinson commented on the three way battle saying: “It was a brilliant race, I got passed and the pace was so equal and so fast I just could not make it back. It was really close racing!”
Egan told us: “What a race! I think the order changed about three times and, unfortunately, Rob pulled out his fastest time on the last lap. I thought I would stick behind him and overtake him in the braking but that’s when he put in that fastest time.”
