Ahead of the Detroit Auto Show 2016, we have highlighted some of the most talked about vehicles from the best carmakers that are sure to turn heads.

Rob Alberts, executive director of the show and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association that hosts it, said Obama's visit is an "honor". Vice President Joe Biden visited Detroit and walked the show floor in 2014. Ford did not take any bailout funds.

"It was not popular. Because today, the American auto industry is back". Critics said it was a "road to socialism, or a 'disaster" waiting to happen.

As the Free Press reported this week, it's hard to argue that the turnaround since then isn't complete, with US auto sales setting a record in 2015 and the Detroit Three each having banner years.

As usual, the White House didn't release any details about the president's trip, which typically come much closer to the visit itself.

Obama has made other auto-related visits to the state. In October, GM announced it was adding a second shift at its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant and adding 1,200 workers there. It marked his first presidential visit to Motown.

In February 2012, the President endorsed the gas-electric Chevrolet Volt, saying he planned to buy the extended-range electric vehicle upon leaving office. I want to personally thank him for his leadership in ensuring we maintain that strength, and he will witness firsthand what hard work and teamwork deliver.
