Guillermo del Toro in talks to direct 'Fantastic Voyage'

Guillermo Del Toro in Talks for

So that leaves Fantastic Voyage without a director.

Outside of his gothic passion project, Crimson Peak director Guillermo del Toro struggled to garner much luck in 2015. In order to save the scientist, who has developed a blood clot in his brain, a team of Americans in a nuclear submarine is shrunk and injected into Benes' body.

It's looking like Guillermo del Toro is moving from his second go at people in big machines to people inside of small machines inside of people. The two previously worked together on Blade 2.

Still, it's hard not to be excited any project that would involve collaboration between Del Toro and Cameron. In 2010, del Toro was tapped to direct an adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft novel, At The Mountains of Madness. The script and treatment for the new Fantastic Voyage were written by David Goyer (Man of Steel).

This Fox and Lightstorm project now has no targeted release date. But of all of those names, del Toro is undoubtedly the most exciting.

If you've been holding out hope that Pacific Rim 2 might get back on track, we have some bad news.

Del Toro's involvement may change if Chinese corporation Wanda closes the deal on acquiring Legendary Pictures, the home of Pacific Rim.

At the time, the studio stated that "the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the wonderful experience of the first film". Rim 2 did more business in China than anywhere else in the world, including the US, and it could spur on the development.

He is in talks to develop and direct the film, according to THR.
