Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Robbie Lawler has put pen to paper for a 170-pound throw down against lightweight import - and prolific welterweight finisher - Donald Cerrone.
UFC 205 is going to be one hell of a show...
"Cowboy" just re-signed with the promotion and it looks like his first fight under his new UFC contract will put him in prime position to challenge for the welterweight belt with a win.
UFC 205 will take place at Madison Square Garden on November 12 and aside from the Lawler-Cerrone bout, the only other fight now on the card is a welterweight bout between Thiago Alves and Al Iaquinta.
Cerrone, meanwhile, is a ideal 3-0 since moving up to the welterweight division. This past month, he dispatched longtime welterweight Rick Story at UFC 202, adding to a long list of knockout wins in his octagon career. The former UFC welterweight champion, he lost the title to Tyron Woodley.
UFC 205 will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12. At the same time, a victory over Lawler, coupled with his three other victories at 170, should put Cerrone right in line for a title shot despite his current No. 14 ranking in the division.
Given the huge disappointment that was UFC 200, most are now assuming that the MMA promotion are doing everything in their power to ensure that their first NY event will be their best ever.
