NYC's iconic Carnegie Deli is closing at the end of the year

The deli's outposts at New York's Madison Square Garden, Las Vegas' Mirage and Bethlehem Pennsylvania's Sands Casino and Resort will remain open, despite this closure, according to Zagat.

The Carnegie Deli, a NY institution since 1937, will soon serve its last "Woody Allen".

The iconic Carnegie Deli, known for its very big pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, will close its doors on December 31, the Daily News has learned.

"I've reached a time in my life when I need to take a step back", she added.

Others said the city should find a way to classify Carnegie Deli as a cultural landmark that must be preserved.

The old-school, Jewish-style deli, despite the allure of its gut-busting grub, has been plagued by a number of scandals and setbacks in recent years.

But the Carnegie, and Marian, were long under strain. She's worked at the deli for 26 years. Marian sued her husband for $10 million alleging he had an affair with a waitress at the restaurant. The recipes were allegedly then used in the girlfriend's family's restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand. The deli's current owner says she wants to retire from running the restaurant.

Carnegie Deli already has several branch locations across the country.

The divorce was settled out of court.

Carnegie Deli reopened last February with sidewalk hawkers dressed as pickles. The walls are lined with photos of celebrities that have dined there.

But now the matzo ball soup's run dry. Licensing deals are keeping the other locations across the United States open and the owner hopes this will some day be the case with the NYC location, reports WABC-TV.
