The new Portable SSD T3 is a palm-sized external solid state drive that can store 2 terabytes of your photos and files while taking up minimal space and weight.
And unlike hard disk drives, the Portable SSD T3 is more durable. For use across your devices Samsung says the drive is exFAT formatted and should happily converse with your Android smartphone/tablet, SmartTV, desktop or laptop (Mac or Windows) and more.
The T3 utilizes Samsung's proprietary Vertical NAND (V-NAND), SSD TurboWrite technology, and the latest USB 3.1 Type-C connection to deliver advanced performance.
Samsung has not disclosed any further technical details such as the used NAND and controller. The metal case can withstand up to 1,500G of force and survive a drop from up to 2 metres, the company claims. "It's the new portable external storage drive users can depend on in any situation or environment", Kim added. The T3 SSDs also feature Thermal Guard which should avoid overheating of the drive. It will be available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB of storage options to provide more room for users who want the portable storage.
Samsung is also offering a free Android app that supports password changes and allows the user to check the remaining capacity of their drive. Although Samsung hasn't announced how much the T3 will sell for when it debuts in USA markets next month, it likely won't come cheap. That password protection unlocks optional AES 256-bit hardware encryption that-according to Samsung-has no impact on performance.
Samsung said it will start selling its T3-branded SSD products beginning in Korea, followed by the United States, China and countries in Europe, after the product was showcased at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016.
Pricing will be announced at a later date, but judging by the original 1TB T1 SSD's initial $600 price tag, expect the 2TB model to cost a pretty penny.
