Murder suspect who climbed out of police cell recaptured

A murder suspect in a Las Vegas police station has staged a daring escape through the ceiling of the room he was held in.

Police checked on Perez - who was wearing an Ezekiel Elliott jersey - while he was in the interrogation room, but they didn't notice the broken handcuffs.

Perez will make another initial appearance in a North Las Vegas court on charges of murder, use of a firearm, escape and auto theft charges.

The captain of the detective bureau said the suspect was incredibly lucky that his escape was successful, noting, "The planets aligned for that guy".

Police in North Las Vegas, Nevada, thought Alonso Perez was safe to leave alone secured to a table at their station - only for the 25-year-old to bust the cuffs, climb up through the roof and flee in a truck that had been left idling outside.

It took police several days to track down Alonso Perez, who was arrested Tuesday evening. Chief Perez said policy changes are in place and regret is replaced with resolve.

Police say Perez is a suspect in the August 27 shooting death of Mohammed Robinson outside a McDonald's restaurant in North Las Vegas. "We did have a video feed, a live feed, but nobody was monitoring", Chief Perez said. "Someone will monitor the video at all times", he said. Authorities said Saturday, Sept. 4 that the Ford F-150 pickup truck had been found but Alonso Perez remains on the loose. He also has an "Air Jordan" tattoo on his neck. A police chief showed video Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, of the Nevada homicide suspect breaking a se.

The police chief said the escape involving broken handcuffs from a police interview room was the first in his 25 years as an officer in North Las Vegas.
