Super Mario's iPhone surprise fuels hopes for Nintendo

Peter Molyneux's 22Cans stealth-launches new title The Trail

Fortunately for Android users, Nintendo has cleared the air, stating that Super Mario Run will be coming to their device of choice.

Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook speaks in front of a Mario Bros. image during an Apple media event in San Francisco, California, U.S. September 7, 2016. An Android launch for the game wasn't confirmed - hardly a surprise given the timing at the iPhone 7 launch event. Nintendo previously announced a slew of new games for the 3DS like Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo 3DS and Pikmin 3DS.

Super Mario Run will arrive on the iPhone and iPad in December.

The game will be broken down into the trademark Mario obstacle courses, each with a flagpole marking the end.

Shigeru Miyamoto, Chief Game Designer at Nintendo and the creator of Super Mario, took the stage to show some features in the upcoming game. This mode is an asynchronous multiplayer mode that lets you choose an opponent and try to beat their high score. If you tap on the screen, he will jump.

"Create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes". These jumps will also be of various types, depending on the situations.

Apple on Wednesday set out to make a splash with new waterproof iPhones, a smartphone game starring Nintendo's beloved "Mario" and a push on wireless headphones. After seeing the success of Pokemon GO, Nintendo's main IP, it was in the company's best interest to develop more games for the smartphones as the market is increasing by the day. Based on the classic Super Mario Bro's, this new "Super Mario Run" allows users to play with a single hand due to its unending running style.

Nintendo has also added multiplayer game support called Toad Rally. Super Mario Run gameplay was also revealed on Nintendo Mobile youtube channel.
